Tulsa McLean, played by Elvis is in the United States Army where he is engaged as a tank gunner. His two mates, Cooky who is played by Robert Ivers is a radio man and Rick, who is played by James Douglas, is a tank driver. Together they have formed a kind of musical combo, which is known as "The Three Blazes". The aim of the combo is to fill in the time they have free whilst on a tour of duty in West Germany. They play odd dates at clubs in the hope of saving enough money to open a small night-club when they are back in "civi-street".
When one of Tulsa's fellow G.I's is transferred to Alaska on the eve of a campaign which would win a 300 dollar wager for himself and his buddies Tulsa is drafted to replace him. The terms of the wager are that he should spend the night in the room of Lili, a cabaret dancer who has the reputation of having a heart of stone. Tulsa gets more involved in the plot than he intended for he soon finds that he has fallen in love with Lili. He also finds Lili to be quite the opposite to her reputation. She had always been known to be cold and hard but he finds her to be warm and agreeable. As they fall more and more in love Lili doesn't know that Tulsa's buddies are keeping a close watch on them to see that he is living up to his word. Although Tulsa does visit Lili's apartment he leaves quite early on in the evening. Tulsa, about this time, has burdened himself with the job of being baby-sitter for the new born son of Rick and his fraulein, Marla. He gets into great difficulties while they are out and phones Lili who suggests that he brings the baby round to her apartment. And so, under these very innocent circumstances, Tulsa spends the night there. His buddies see all that is going on but naturally they misconstrue Tulsa's intentions. They rejoice in the fact that he has lived up to the terms of the wager.
The following day rehearsals start for an Armed Forces show in which Lili is to appear with "The Three Blazes". Tulsa's sergeant is continually bragging of Tulsa's success and Lili realises the plot in which she has been involved.
Worse is to come for Tulsa's commanding officer has learned of the wager and he is doing all in his power to transfer him to another base. Tulsa realises that an apology is necessary to Lili who believes that the baby-sitting chore was just an excuse for Tulsa to spend the night in her apartment. Rick and Marla come to Tulsa's rescue and explain to Lili that it was completely authentic. And so Lili realises her mistake. They both confess their love for one another, and once again, Elvis is resigned to a happy marriage!
