Although this is not strictly a radio special, as such, I thought it was deserving of being included here due to its uniqueness.
This is a University of Detroit special "UoFD" showtime feature presenting a documentary report, "The story of the visit to Detroit of the most controversial man in show business today". It features a reporter doing live interviews with fans in the audience, while Elvis is performing on stage, on March 31 1957, at the Olympia Stadium in Detroit, and fragments of 'Heartbreak Hotel', 'Long Tall Sally', 'That's When Your Heartaches Begin', 'All Shook Up', 'Playing For Keeps', 'Don't Be Cruel' and 'Hound Dog' can be heard ('All hell breaks loose! part 2'), and also features part of the press conference from Elvis' dressing room.
The show itself is just over twenty-nine minutes long, although I have split it into ten separate parts for ease of listening.
It was released in 1998 on the Dutch fan club "It's Elvis Time" CD Rebel Talk.

Palm Sunday radio show) |
This radio show was sent out by RCA on a one-sided promo record for a one-time broadcast by only one radio station - KVIO in Cottonwood, Arizona, a tiny community southwest of Sedona, on November 5 1967.
The label reads: “Special Location Radio Program. MGM's Stay Away Joe on Location Sedona, Arizona Compliments of Elvis and the Colonel".
A plain paper inner sleeve has track titles typewritten, along with the following statement: “For KVIO broadcast, Sunday, November 5, 1967. Property of All Star Shows. Return to Col. Parker's office after airing". Interestingly, only eight tracks are listed on the inner sleeve, although the program actually includes nine tracks! Missing from the list is 'In My Father's House', which is track no. 2. What is typed as track 2 ('I Believe In The Man In The Sky') is actually no. 3, and so on.
It was made for a one-time broadcast by only one radio station -- KVIO, a Cottonwood, Arizona station that served the Sedona area (where Stay Away, Joe was filmed). Ensuring the show ran exclusively on this station, the host, Joe Adams (borrowed from KOY in Phoenix) mentions the call letters "K-V-I-O", which precluded the possibility of any other station playing it, as well as the need for more than one copy!
The self-contained 30-minute program features nine of Elvis' Gospel tunes, along with Adams thanking Sedona and Cottonwood for the hospitality shown the cast and crew during production of the film. Also included is publicity for Elvis' two Gospel albums (His Hand In Mine and How Great Thou Art) as well as the upcoming (December 3 1967) Christmas Special radio program.
Do not mistake this unique LP for an acetate, factory experimental disc, or a test pressing of any kind. This is a standard production disc, manufactured (that is, "stamped" or "pressed", not "cut") exactly like any normal commercial or promotional record.

This radio show was broadcast on December 3, and again on December 10 1967.
The show was sent out by RCA on tape and DJ promo records to over 2,000 radio stations across the U.S.A with a timings sheet that allowed individual radio stations to add their own announcers when airing on their radio stations.
The extremely rare record had only twenty-five copies pressed. It's a single-sided (the other side is blank) 12-inch promotional album made for only a few larger market radio stations to air on December 3 1967. All other stations received this 30-minute program on a single 7-inch reel-to-reel tape.
A 32-page booklet was given out to radio stations to promote the show.

This acetate was sold at a Graceland auction in August 2015.
The radio show is a customized 1968 version of the rare 1967 RCA record Special Palm Sunday Programming that was distributed only to radio stations and presented as a complete half-hour radio program with spot announcements and selections from the RCA Victor album How Great Thou Art. In 1967, the Colonel masterminded the half hour broadcast to be delivered and aired on hundreds of stations on Palm Sunday (March 19 1967). The record was a complete broadcast with announcements between songs from the newly released Elvis album How Great Thou Art.
This acetate, however, hails from one year later, and has been customized for the George Cameron Station for Palm Springs, California (KDES 92 Radio), and features the voice of local DJ Gene Thayer handling the announcements between songs. The introduction of the show states that "This special program for the Easter season is brought to you by Elvis and the Colonel with the hope that you and your family will find happiness and peace during this most sacred of seasons and on this day of national mourning for the late Reverend Martin Luther King".
The memorial fell on Palm Sunday in 1968 (April 7 1968), and apparently the folks at the Palm Springs radio station thought the Elvis special was the perfect fit, leaving us with perhaps the only known copy of this one-of-a-kind Elvis record. The acetate's label lists only "Elvis" on Side 1, and on Side 2 it says, "Elvis Palm Springs 'Palm Sunday' Show - 1968".
The record does contain the whole 30-minute program with the unique KDES announcements. Interestingly, side two ends with about 35 seconds of The Beatles' 'Lady Madonna'.
It is unknown what order of songs were actually played as we only hear snippets of 'His Hand In Mine' and 'How Great Thou Art'.
More information about the acetate, can be found at www.graceland.com.

This 30-minute radio show was broadcast on December 1 1968.
Nothing is known about which songs etc. were played during this radio program, other than it was sent out by Colonel Parker, in association with RCA and All Star Shows, to be heard on 1,250 to 1,500 radio stations across the U.S.A. to promote the new TV Special, which was being broadcast on TV on December 3 1968, and the associated RCA soundtrack album.
A 32-page booklet was given out in stores to promote the radio show and TV special.
