Except for masters and alternate masters - all
original 3-Track tapes are lost.
Celluloid Rock Volume 2 (Cool Romeo)
has a binaural mix used for the masters.
Take 1 of the harmony vocal overdub (2012)
of 'Could I Fall In Love' is the movie version of the song. It is mistakenly announced as "Twenty
F... (announcer stumbles) Thirteen Take One" (instead of "Twenty Twelve"), and was
released (without count-in) as 'vocal only' on
FTD's Double Trouble extended soundtrack.
A composite of takes 1 and 4 of the harmony vocal was also tried out for the movie version of 'Could I Fall In Love' although it appears that only Take 1 itself was used instead, although edited.
'Could I Fall In Love' is also edited for final record version master. The original verse
from 0:55 to 1:34 is omitted, and the intro is
extended.
Takes 10 and 12 of 'City By Night' survive
(in stereo) on the master tape reel, as the original master of this 1st vocal overdub was a splice of takes 12 and 10, as follows:
0.00 - 1.58 = Take 12 (start to "The city by night")
1.59 - 2.47 = Take 10 ("lies wide awake" to end)
The master of 'Old MacDonald' is edited
- Elvis' complete vocal ending is cut from the
end of the song.
Before Take 2 of the vocal overdub (2014)
of 'Old MacDonald', Elvis can be heard singing
a line of 'When I Fall In Love'.
'Old MacDonald' on the bootlegs From
The Archives Volume 1 and From The
Archives Volume 2 (hidden track), and 'Could
I Fall In Love' on the bootleg From The
Archives Volume 2 (hidden track) is just
one channel removed, and then centred, from the
binaural tape.
An approximation of how the musical score fits into the movie is shown below, but this is just an educated guess as some timings of tracks do not match timings on MGM's Daily Music Reports from the scoring sessions.
All timings in the 'Musical Breakdown' below are taken from the DVD release of the movie.
In March of 2007, Sony decided to go through all of Elvis' masters. They retransferred everything and remastered all tracks including repairing as many clicks, pops, bad edits and dropouts as they could. They have used these newly mastered recordings on their new releases since 2007 including budget soundtracks, Legacy releases, the 30 disc Complete Elvis Presley Masters collection and the Franklin Mint package.
