During the 'Too Much Monkey Business' session,
we get to hear some pre-song banter between Elvis
and the guys and we get a snippet of Elvis singing
'When Irish Eyes Are Smiling', as well
as Elvis joking with Jerry Reed about the song
'Tupelo Mississippi Flash'.
On FTD's Stay Away, Joe extended soundtrack album,
track 9 is listed as being takes 1, 3 & 9 of 'Too Much Monkey Business',
but what we actually get is Takes 1, 3, 4 (rehearsal
only), 6 & 9.
An obscure bootleg CD-R entitled Escondido has what appears to be the first half of the 'Goin'
Home' session taken from an acetate source.
On further inspection, it's only some of the first
half of the session, and the takes are in the
wrong running order - Takes 10, 11, 12, 14, 15
(announcement only), 9, 10 (announcement only),
5, 3, 4, 5 (announcement only), 2, 3 (announcement
only). This first half of the session can also
be found on the bootleg The American Way
Volume 5 - Going Home To Memphis in a much
improved sound quality and in the correct order.
Takes 16 to 26 (28) of 'Goin' Home' can
be found on the bootlegs Going Home (Audifon) and I'm Going Home (Stay
Away Records) but have very bad noise reduction
used. This second half of the session can also
be found on the bootleg The American Way
Volume 5 - Going Home To Memphis in a much
improved sound quality.
Elvis can be heard singing part of the song 'Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow'
by The Rivingtons during take 26/28 of 'Goin'
Home', and also makes reference to the song
during earlier takes too.
Thanks to Emrah Çoruh for information
regarding the song 'Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow'.
In March of 2007, Sony decided to go through all of Elvis' masters. They retransferred everything and remastered all tracks including repairing as many clicks, pops, bad edits and dropouts as they could. They have used these newly mastered recordings on their new releases since 2007 including budget soundtracks, Legacy releases, the 30 disc Complete Elvis Presley Masters collection and the Franklin Mint package.
