Joseph Tunzi mentioned in Sessions II that
horn overdubs were rejected for 'Almost', but they were not, as the master contains horns!
The record version of 'Swing Down Sweet Chariot'
was first released on the 2009 Sony compilation
box set I Believe - The Gospel Masters,
and again on Sony's 30 disc Complete Elvis Presley
Masters collection, where the liner notes incorrectly
indicated that it was first released on Elvis - A Legendary
Performer Volume 4. This version also contained
female backing vocals by The Blossoms and done
at the same overdub session as 'Clean Up Your
Own Back Yard'.
The piano intro on 'Almost' is cut in the
movie.
Before the release of FTD's The Last Movies extended soundtrack CD, it was not known that Elvis sang on 'Far Above Caguya's Waters' as part of the 'College Songs Medley', but he can be clearly heard in the left channel, when the right channel is removed, singing on that song as well as 'The Whiffenpoof Song' and 'Violet'.
The complete 'College Songs Medley', including non-Elvis
numbers, is 'Far Above Cayuga's Waters' / 'Boola
Boola' / 'Dartmouth's In Town Again' / 'The Eyes Of
Texas' / 'On Wisconsin' / 'Whiffenpoof Song' / 'Fair
Harvard' / 'Notre Dame' / 'Violet'. The songs 'Fair
Harvard' and 'Notre Dame' were not used
in the movie.
Other songs from the soundtrack not featuring
Elvis include: 'Nobody's Baby', 'Coffee
Grows On White Oak Trees' (Four in the Middle),
'Mademoiselle From Armentieres' and 'Row,
Row, Row Your Boat'.
In March of 2007, Sony decided to go through all of Elvis' masters. They retransferred everything and remastered all tracks including repairing as many clicks, pops, bad edits and dropouts as they could. They have used these newly mastered recordings on their new releases since 2007 including budget soundtracks, Legacy releases, the 30 disc Complete Elvis Presley Masters collection and the Franklin Mint package.
